Getting Started with Paleo

A Paleo lifestyle should be high in fat, moderate in animal protein and low to moderate in carbohydrates.

ü Enjoy a healthy portion of animal protein including meat, poultry, pork, eggs and fish. Fat from proteins is healthy for you in moderation so don’t be afraid to enjoy a “fattier” cut of meat
ü Butter, olive oil, beef tallow, lard and coconut oil are all good choices that should be used in cooking and drizzling over foods and salads
ü Nuts and fruits should be enjoyed in moderate portions. Fruit choices should include berries which are lower in sugar and nuts such as almonds and macadamia nuts
ü Fresh and or frozen vegetables should be enjoyed in generous portions. You may consume cooked or raw veggies. Starchy vegetables including sweet potatoes are an excellent source of healthy carbohydrates.
ü Eliminate all cereal, grains and legumes from your lifestyle. Be sure to avoid corn, brown and white rice, soy, peanuts, kidney beans, pinto beans, navy beans, rye, wheat and barley
ü Eliminate all vegetable, hydrogenated and partly-hydrogenated oils including canola oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, corn and peanut oils, margarine and soybean oil.
ü Eliminate added sugar, all packaged sweets, juices, soft drinks and sugary snacks, if it’s prepackaged, don’t eat it.
ü Eat whenever you’re hungry, be sure to exercise in moderation, take you daily vitamins, and enjoy your life choices!
